Microsoft has finally announced that its Recall AI feature is being delayed by a few months. Originally planned to launch with Copilot+ PCs in June 2024, the company now plans to make Recall available to Windows Insiders for testing no earlier than October.

Microsoft's Recall Feature Delay and Windows 11 Update Rollout

To summarize, Recall is an AI-powered tool designed to capture screenshots of user activity on Windows PCs every few seconds, creating a searchable timeline. However, the feature has received criticism for potential privacy and security risks.

Microsoft has attempted to address some of these concerns by making some general changes to Recall, such as making it an opt-in feature rather than one that is enabled by default. The Recall database is also encrypted and requires Windows Hello authentication for access.

Pavan Davuluri, Microsoft's VP of Windows and Devices, said security remains the company's "top priority." The delay gives Microsoft more time to ensure Recall meets its "high standards for quality and security."
