Pokémon Go has officially changed its avatar models, and players on social media are mourning the loss of their previous looks. Some say that this new update has “ruined their trainer” and that various visual bugs have appeared.

Pokémon GO players are furious about this avatar update…

On April 17, the first wave of Niantic's new "Rediscover Pokémon Go" updates went live, bringing a new set of avatar designs with more customization options available. Unfortunately, those models also drastically changed the look of legendary Japanese character artist Yūsuke Kozaki's original Pokémon Go designs for player trainers, leaving them as "corpses" with less vibrant colors and odd proportions.

What some players were heralding as a "visual doomsday" has now come to pass, with many who thought that was an exaggeration now seeing that while some of the options are welcome additions, the soul of the models hasn't been overly dramatized. "I'm so sorry I ever doubted you, oh wise PoGo community. Niantic, what the hell is this?" said Reddit user Tatertot1282. "The pose. The arms. Why are the arms so long? Why does everything look so terrible now? We wanted hair options, but at what cost? The hair options are that bad???!!!"

Yes, the ability to change your trainer’s body shape and some additional features like hair is something players have been asking for from Niantic for years, but the whiplash deserves this constructive backlash. Players joke about their “ass being gone” and such, but the sheer number of posts that are angry about the new proportions, are genuinely angry and are considering quitting the game outweighs the jokes.
