Google has released a new build of Chrome OS, version 91.0.4472.167, to fix a bug that was preventing some Chromebook users from accessing their systems.

Chromebook tip to prank your friends!

Stable build 91.0. 4772.165 of Chrome OS prevented some Chromebook users from logging in and accessing their files. In some cases, it was also reported to cause a “boot loop,” which causes the system to shut down and restart infinitely. With the latest stable build 91.0. 4472.167, affected users should be able to regain access to their Chromebooks.

According to Android Police, the culprit was a simple typo where Google left out a second "&" from a command, leading to login issues for many users. Fortunately, it appears that version 91.0. 4472.167 can decrypt user accounts and allow them to log in, so if your Chromebook is affected, the update should make things smoother again.

Unfortunately, if you powerwashed your system (i.e. reset it to factory settings), you're out of luck. While the update prevents the lockout problem from happening again, there's no way to get the lost data back.
