Nintendo is today acquiring Shiver Entertainment from Embracer Group to acquire its “high-quality resources for porting and developing software titles,” in a move that could be a step toward offering more games on the console.

In a statement released by Nintendo on May 21, the Japanese company said: "Shiver's focus remains the same and will continue to fulfill orders for porting and developing software for multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch." In doing so, the company confirmed that the role of the porting company will not change, despite the acquisition and the fact that it has become a wholly owned subsidiary of Nintendo.

The work of Miami-based Shiver Entertainment speaks volumes about its quality. The company has helped port third-party games like Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1 to Nintendo Switch.

The acquisition is Nintendo's first since the acquisitions of Dynamo Pictures (now Nintendo Pictures) and SRD in 2022. Over the years, the company has built a reputation for making selective acquisitions such as Next Level Games in 2021. This recent move seems to suggest that the console maker wants to have more third-party games under its belt.
