Oprah Winfrey cries as she explains her support for Kamala Harris: "I really care about this country"

A week after she endorsed Kamala Harris with a rousing speech at the Democratic National Convention, Oprah Winfrey was in Venice on Thursday. Winfrey was there to present her friend, fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, with the DVF Awards, which celebrate the work of extraordinary women.

During the event, which took place on the sidelines of the Venice Film Festival, Oprah spoke to Variety about Harris, who she said has gone from "hiding in plain sight" until recently to now, as a presidential candidate, "embracing the true vision of herself."

This year’s DVF Awards winners are Jacinda Ardern, former Prime Minister of New Zealand; Yael Admi, co-founder and leader of the Israeli movement Women Wage Peace; Reem Al-Hajajreh, co-founder and director of the Palestinian organization Women of the Sun; climate justice activist Xiye Bastida, co-founder of the Re-Earth Initiative; Italian reproductive rights advocate Alessandra Kustermann; and children’s rights advocate Graça Machel.
