Previously, Astrophotography mode would automatically activate when the phone detected low-light conditions and was placed on a stable surface. With this update, users can now enable the mode on demand via the Night Sight feature’s quick settings.

To access this new functionality, Pixel users will need to open the camera app and switch to Night Sight mode. In Quick Settings, they can now select “Astro” from the duration slider (on the far right).

Switching to Astrophotography will turn on a 5-second timer (which you can turn off). Once you start shooting, you’ll have plenty of time to place your Pixel on a surface and point it at the star.
