After nearly two decades, Princess Peach returns as the protagonist of a Mario Franchise spin-off in a casual platformer aimed at a young audience. While it’s priced high for the amount of content and has a surprising lack of moustaches, the game fulfills the goals it was designed for.

Princess Peach: Showtime! Review

The naivety of the characters makes for a simple plot, but it does help the game move forward. The story is easy to understand for audiences of all ages, and it is quick and effective in introducing a new quest, scene, or set of characters.

However, the story serves the gameplay mechanics (rather than having the same hierarchy) and only functions as an excuse to make us play different mini-games with different versions of Peach. This means that there were no secondary plots, memorable characters, comedy, drama or intrigue.

While a platform game like this is understandably more focused on gameplay than story, the addition of more familiar characters from Mario's world could have made the game even more appealing and engaging.
