After months of teasing, Riot Games has now officially revealed the lore and splash art for League's upcoming champion, Aurora. The "Witch Between Worlds" hails from the frozen wastes of Freljord and is of the Vastaya race, the same as Rengar and Ahri.

AURORA SPLASH ART & NEW TEASER – League of Legends

Aurora comes from a small village deep within Freljord, and from a young age possessed the ability to see the spirits and their strange realm. Her uniqueness in this regard caused her to become isolated and individualistic, and the eventual discovery of "new" and stranger spirits in her home village piqued her interest and drew her away from the settlement in search of knowledge. The newly shared lore states that Aurora eventually encountered a wild elk spirit and sought to tame it. This eventually brought her into contact with existing champions, Ornn and Udyr, both of whom helped her on her path.

Aurora’s connection to Ornn was previously revealed via an interactive visual novel-style game in the League of Legends client. Guided by Udyr, Aurora sought an audience with the Great Ram, who revealed the name of her spirit elk: Haestryr. The spirit also turned out to be one of Ornn’s many demigod siblings, Volibear and Anivia. Wanting to help Haestryr find his way home where he belongs, Aurora leaves Ornn’s home in Hearth-Home to seek out the other demigods who might hold the key to Haestryr’s fate.

Aurora's lore directly ties her to several existing champions, as mentioned above, and with further expansions to her story we'll likely see even more familiar faces pop up. Freljord is one of the most interesting regions in all of Runeterra, and it's full of mystery and wonders, making it the perfect setting for any champion.
