St. Elmo's Fire sequel in 'early stages', says Rob Lowe

During a recent interview, Lowe confirmed the ongoing development of the St. Elmo's Fire sequel, revealing that the studio has indeed approached the cast about it. However, he shared that the project is still in the "early stages" of development.

"This is real. It's very, very, very, very, very early, and I don't want to say anything more than it's an early stage, real thing," he said (via Screen Rant).

The film, which was released in 1985, was directed by the late Joel Schumacher from a screenplay he co-wrote with Carl Kurlander. It follows the lives of a group of friends after they graduate from college as they deal with the challenges that come with adulthood. Despite negative reviews, it was a box office success, grossing over $37 million against a reported budget of $10 million.
