These websites allow users to upload photos of clothed individuals and then use AI to generate realistic nude versions without consent. The technology has been abused to create explicit images of both adults and minors, raising serious ethical and legal questions.

According to Chiu's office, the targeted sites received more than 200 million visits in just six months this year, a staggering number that underscores the widespread nature of the problem.

The lawsuit accuses the website operators of violating multiple laws, including those prohibiting deepfake pornography, revenge porn and child exploitation. It seeks to shut down the platforms and impose hefty fines.
