Book lovers can now get their hands on cultural and legal books, some of which are first editions and signed by the author. These books have been stored in Malacañang for years, if not decades.

First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos recently opened a permanent gallery on the second floor of the National Library for more than 66,000 books she discovered while conducting cleaning duties in the palace.

Marcos said the books, many of which showed mold from poor storage, could be put to better use if they were accessible to the public.

“Part of my duties as a ‘fierce lady’ is to repair a room a week in Malacañang. We went to the room and it was full of books, cultural books, heritage books, law books. There were 66,000 of them in total, some were on the floor, some are amag, especially the law books were first editions signed by the author himself,” she recalled.
