On May 26th, there was a sudden update to Wuthering Waves that players were alerted to via a passing banner at the top of their screen. In that update, the developers at KURO GAMES decided to scrap Scar's original costume design, and many players know why.

Wuthering Wave 1.2 Changes

I played the first introduction of Scar earlier today on May 26, 2024, and he still had his bodysuit design. This was a pretty clean design that reminded me of the old Gundam suits from so many of the popular Gundam anime and manga series.

However, it soon became known that players in China did not like the outfit because of the design on Scar's pelvic area. This thick, black stripe caused many players in China to create memes about the design, saying that it looked like an "onigiri" ("rice ball" in Japanese).

Since then, the term “onigiri manko” has been used in reference to Scar’s original design — it translates as “rice ball p*ssy,” which can be seen as a vulgar term for female genitalia, while the word “omanko” is the more affectionate version. A quick search for Scar’s original design will turn up countless videos, Twitter posts, and Reddit comments using the term.
