The Android Gmail app is getting an update soon that will make it easier to search your inbox.

Google's #1 Worst Privacy Setting (Change It Now!)

Google announced via Workspace Updates that it has begun updating the Gmail app on Android, adding "chips" to help with search. For example, you can do things like narrow down results by name or a specific date. According to the announcement, "Search filters can be used independently or after searching, so you can choose filter options from expanded drop-down menus."

"Chips" are those little pull-down menus that you can use to customize your search criteria and, hopefully, make it easier to find exactly what you're looking for. In this case, you can type in whatever search term you want and then use the "chips" to refine your search even further. It's proven quite useful for the desktop version of Gmail and will definitely be welcome on Android. Hopefully there are plans to add it to iOS as well.

Android Police notes that the update will likely happen on Gmail's server side, so you don't necessarily need to update the app to get access to it. You'll just have to wait until the feature eventually shows up for you. This update also doesn't require any additional setup for admins or general users. The new filter options will simply appear below the search bar once the change has been pushed.
