His sons Aryan and AbRam will voice Simba and the young Mufasa, respectively. Khan also voiced Mufasa in the 2019 live-action The Lion King. "Mufasa has an incredible legacy and is known as the ultimate king of the jungle, passing on his wisdom to his son Simba," Khan said. "I can really relate to him as a father and I also resonate with Mufasa's journey in the film. Mufasa: The Lion King chronicles Mufasa's life from his childhood to his rise as an incredible king and revisiting this character was exceptional. It's a special collaboration for me with Disney, especially because my sons, Aryan and AbRam, are part of this journey and sharing this experience with them is truly meaningful."

Bikram Duggal, Head of Studios at Disney Star, said: "The ferocious Mufasa is more than just a fictional character, he embodies a spirit that continues to inspire generations, a quality that Disney strives to embody with every story. When Mufasa: The Lion King was announced, we could not have imagined anyone other than Shah Rukh Khan and Aryan Khan returning to our family as Mufasa and Simba. With AbRam joining the cast, this film has become even more special for us. Our ambition here is for millions of Indian viewers to enjoy this incredible story with their families."

Combining live action with photorealistic computer-generated imagery, Mufasa: The Lion King stars Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., John Kani, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Donald Glover and Thandiwe Newton.
