Flying cars don't exist yet, but talking roads may be in the future.

These smart roads could change the future of driving

In the latest newsletter from Purdue University, Dr. Luna Lu, professor and director of the university's Center for Intelligent Infrastructure (CII), argued that our highways and bridges must be "smart enough" to prevent damage.

“Our roads will not become safer if we continue to fix potholes or build infrastructure as we have done so far,” Dr. Lu wrote. “We need to think about how to incorporate a digital transformation [into our roads].”

Dr. Lu, a professor at Purdue's Lyles School of Civil Engineering, is working on innovations in the concrete used to build highways.
