Startup Settings is a menu of different ways you can start Windows, including the familiar Safe Mode diagnostic boot option.

The Startup Settings menu is available in Windows 11, Windows 10, and Windows 8. The equivalent boot options menu in previous versions of Windows is called Advanced Startup Options.

The available options allow you to start Windows in a restricted mode when it won’t start normally. If Windows does start in special mode, it’s likely that whatever was restricted is causing the problem, giving you some information to help you troubleshoot.

The most commonly used option in the Startup Settings menu is Safe Mode.
