BANGKOK, Aug 7 (Reuters) – Thailand's Constitutional Court on Wednesday ordered the dissolution of the anti-establishment opposition party Move Forward, ruling that the party's campaign to change a law shielding the monarchy from criticism undermined democratic could undermine the system.

The dissolution of Move Forward, which won the most seats in the 2023 election, is the latest setback for Thailand's major political parties, which have been locked in a two-decade power struggle against a group of influential conservatives, old-money families and the royalist army. .

While the dissolution angered millions of young and urban voters who supported Move Forward and its progressive agenda, the ruling could have minimal impact. Only the 11 party executives would face 10-year bans on politics as a result of the ruling.
