The following apps represent some of the best and most used camera and video apps available on both Android and iOS. Whenever you want to suggest a camera app but are unsure what platform the other person is using, you can safely recommend these apps.

Adobe's app combines custom camera controls with a variety of image editing options in a single app. You can take photos and perform basic edits with the free version of the app. A paid monthly upgrade provides access to more selection and editing tools, automatic tagging, and storage. (Adobe Creative Cloud members also receive these benefits after signing up.)

On iOS, Google Lens is a feature within the Google app. But on Android, Google Lens is a full-featured, installable app. While Lens isn’t a traditional camera app, it might just be the smartest camera app you’ll ever use: It can identify lots of plants, animals, and landmarks, and can recognize phone numbers, event dates, and addresses in text.

Google Street View (free) lets you view images of buildings taken from roads and capture the 360-degree view (also called a photosphere) around you. Tap the camera to get started, then rotate the camera to capture the globe around you as you rotate the camera around a central point. You can import and view 360-degree photos in the app.
