If you’re an iPhone user, you probably know and love Live Photos. These photos capture a bit of video with each photo, complete with audio. They’ve been around since the iPhone 6S in 2015, so you may have Live Photos of friends and loved ones going back eight years. They’re much more memorable than a regular photo, allowing you to see how that person moved and sounded, even years later. With the new spatial photo and video features, that’s a lot more realistic.
"Live Photos on iPhone have always done more than just take pictures for me, they've captured moments," Maxwell Bentley, video producer and founder of Bentley Media, told Lifewire via email. "I love being able to scroll back and see a short video clip of a photo with my fiancée and hear her giggle, a beautiful sunset over the Atlanta skyline, or highlights from a vacation. I'm excited that the Spatial Video feature on iPhone 15 will take that even further."
If you’re familiar with Live Photos, try this thought experiment. Think back to something you remember from many, many years ago. It might be your child’s first tottering steps, just before they figured out how to open the pan drawer in the kitchen. It might be your own childhood, or a photo of a first boyfriend, or a home you used to love that’s gone.
