According to Theron, the second part of Greg Rukka's comic book adaptation will be released soon.
In a recent interview with Variety, Theron provided multiple updates on The Old Guard 2's release, while also shedding light on the reason behind the film's delay. She explained that while filming was set to wrap in 2022, structural changes within Netflix's upper management caused the long-awaited sequel to be pushed back.
Theron explained, "We were kind of stuck in it and our post-production got shut down, I think, after five weeks." The Academy Award winner went on to reveal that the actors' and writers' strikes also played a major role in derailing the film's release schedule. Despite the obstacles, Theron seemed confident about the sequel's eventual premiere. She said, "They went through a lot of changes and I totally understand that. We're finally picking it up again and I'm really excited about it."
