Baratza has announced an affordable espresso grinder, but the best part is that, like all Baratza grinders, it is completely repairable. And not just imaginary repairable. Baratza sells replacement parts, which are available locally from Baratza dealers and resellers around the world. Baratza also creates guides and videos so you can easily do the repairs yourself. That is perhaps the most important part. We are so used to replacing things when a part breaks that repairing them is no longer our first thought. The first step to longer-lasting gadgets is wanting to repair them.
“Having spare parts available, along with associated service manuals, is a great starting point from which we can climb even further,” Kevin Purdy of repair organization iFixit told Lifewire via email.
I have a Baratza Encore and have ordered parts, repaired it twice, and upgraded the burr (the conical part that does the sharpening). Both repairs were for "consumable" parts that are expected to wear out, but as far as replacement parts go, the company offers everything, right down to the motor. The Encore is Baratza's entry-level model, and perhaps the name is a clever nod to the fact that it can come back again and again.
