HomeHow to, TechThreads introduces new 'Trending Now' feature in the US

Threads users in the US will now see a new “Trending Now” section in their feed. Here, users will find hot topics that are driving growing conversation on the platform. Trending Now is integrated into the search page and into your For You feed.

Why Threads are more important than you think.

Threads uses AI systems to determine the most popular topics based on user engagement and interaction. Users will see up to 5 trending topics in the 'Trending Now' section. Selecting a topic will take the user to the search results for that topic. Please note, however, that topics are not personalized to you, even though they may appear in your 'For You' feed.

Threads claims that trending topics will not be limited to stories, and that its AI systems will draw from a wider pool of stories that people are actively engaging with. Additionally, Threads has a dedicated team of content specialists to review topics and ensure that they do not violate community guidelines, "and that themes are not duplicative, nonsensical, or misleading."

It’s no secret that Threads has been a direct competitor to X (formerly Twitter) since Twitter’s inception. With the introduction of the ‘Trending Now’ feature, which is essentially a dedicated section for breaking news, it now comes one step closer to becoming a carbon copy of its rival. At the same time, the feature will help users quickly discover new content without having to resort to ‘tags’.
