It's been months since Clove was added to VALORANT, but some players believe the addition has ruined the game.

The reality of professional Valorant players…

When Clove joined VALORANT in Patch 8.05, players were excited about a more aggressive controller agent with ways to heal and revive themselves. The immortal agent quickly became a popular choice that often gets instalocked, but other players were frustrated, stating, “Clove adding to VALORANT has done irreparable harm to the quality of ranked play.”

Likewise, in a Reddit thread from August 9, players discussed the issues with Clove and how they can easily be fixed. As the original poster pointed out, Clove is considered the worst agent for their controller role with the shortest smoke duration. Sure, they’re great for fragging and have the unique ability to lay down smoke even after death, but they can’t control as much space as, say, Viper or Harbor Walls. Additionally, Clove just feels more limited than Omen, Astra, and Brimstone. And yet, many players will still lock onto them instead of other controllers, often putting your team at a disadvantage.

Besides having the worst smokes of all controllers, it’s not uncommon to come across Clove players who don’t know how to use their smokes effectively. This could be because they don’t normally play other controller agents, or because they’re too busy chasing kills with the more aggressive abilities in their kit. In other words, Clove often ends up being a more selfish choice than a team player, and it can feel like your team doesn’t have any reliable smokes to work with.
