Venezuela in political stalemate after both Maduro and opposition claim election victory
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said Wednesday he is ready to provide evidence of his election victory, as international pressure mounts to support his disputed victory, which has sparked deadly protests.
The opposition, which claims its candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia was the rightful winner, said 16 people were killed in protests that broke out after Sunday's election in the Latin American country.
The White House warned that its patience, and that of the international community, with Venezuela was “running thin,” joining the European Union and countries in the region in demanding a detailed breakdown of votes cast.
