National Unity Party chairman and Camarines Sur Rep. LRay Villafuerte is optimistic that Congress will finally approve the medicinal use of cannabis for Filipinos suffering from serious ailments such as cancer, epilepsy and multiple sclerosis.

South Carolina Senate Approves Bill to Legalize Medical Marijuana

Villafuerte expressed optimism following the third and final passage by the House of Representatives of the proposed Access to Medical Cannabis Act (House Bill 10439), which seeks to remove cannabidiol (CBD) from the list of prohibited dangerous drugs under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 (Republic Act 9165).

CBD is the non-addictive strain of cannabis sativa or the marijuana plant.

“Now that the House has finally approved HB 10439, all that remains for our senators to do is to pass the medical cannabis bill that is before their chamber so that we can have a consolidated bill that can be submitted to President Marcos and signed into law by him during this third and final session of the 19th Congress,” said Villafuerte, a longtime advocate of the legalization of CBD oil for medical purposes only.
