EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Pictures has preemptively acquired Julien Magnat's original horror thriller script Familiar , with Walter Hamada's 18hz Productions set to produce under his output deal with the studio. The plotline is being kept under wraps, but it centers on a single mother who inadvertently invites an evil entity into her home.

Former DC head Walter Hamada to lead horror efforts at Paramount

This is Magnat's first spec sale. He previously wrote and directed the Milla Jovovich thriller Faces in the Crowd.

Earlier this year at CinemaCon, it was announced that Hamada and Paramount are developing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, a live-action film based on the fan graphic novel of the same name.

Paramount also greenlit Johannes Roberts' Primate , which Hamada will produce. Roberts will co-write and direct the film. Oscar winner Troy Kotsur will star.
