Tyla is a South American singer known for her hits like "Truth or Dare". In March 2024, she was invited by Kai Cenat to join him on one of his celebrity livestreams, where the awkward interaction took place.
Kai shot Tyla down by asking her, "If you have some free time, do you want to go on a date with me?" Tyla got a little confused by this, however, and told him he couldn't "do it during a whole live thing." Her follow-up became instant meme material. "Uh… but we're friends," she said, ultimately putting Kai in the friend zone.
The phrase, "we're friends tho," led to a barrage of messages coming Kai's way, with viewers spamming the phrase in chat. While Kai was getting hit with the troll, the whole fiasco caught the attention of Breakfast Club host Charlamagne the God, who brought it up during his interview with Tyla in June.
