The iPhone 13 could come with an always-on display, just like the Apple Watch. This small feature could bring a huge change to the way we use our phones.

According to leaks published by 9to5Mac, the next iPhone will have an always-on display that looks like a “tinted lock screen.” It will show the clock, battery status, and notifications without lighting up the entire screen to show them. It sounds nice, but what could an iPhone with an always-on display possibly do?

"There are rumors that an iPhone always-on lock screen will at least include time and battery, plus a system for showing apps that have pending notifications," Weston Happ, product development manager at Merchant Maverick, told Lifewire via email. "Whether the iPhone 13 has special cool features like to-do lists or album art is very much a matter of battery life expectations and the revenue Apple sees coming."

The new iPhone is also expected to use Apple's ProMotion display technology, like the one in the iPad Pro, which allows the screen to change its refresh rate. When you scroll, it will refresh at 120Hz, for maximum touch responsiveness and smoother animation. When the image on the screen is stationary, the refresh rate will drop to save battery life.
