Hungarian football superstar Barnabas Varga recently suffered a nasty injury in his team’s final group stage match against Scotland at UEFA Euro 2024. The 29-year-old forward was carried off the pitch on a stretcher midway through the match, after receiving immediate first aid from the medics on site. With the knockout stages of the tournament yet to begin, fans are extremely concerned about the Hungarian footballer’s wellbeing. But what exactly happened to Barnabas Varga? Varga broke several bones in his face and also suffered a concussion after his collision with opposing goalkeeper Angus Gunn.

Both Hungary and Scotland needed to win their final group stage match to keep their hopes of advancing alive. With the score still tied in the 71st minute, a cross was sent towards Varga into the Scotland penalty area. However, the Ferencváros striker collided with the opposition keeper in an attempt to reach the ball. The match was then stopped for around 10 minutes, with Barnabas Varga eventually being substituted due to the injury.

After the incident, the Hungarian Football Federation released details about the striker’s condition. The forward suffered multiple fractures in his face and a concussion. As a result, he will most likely undergo surgery to heal. Unfortunately, he will miss the rest of the Euros if Hungary advance to the knockout stages.
