Dark and Darker has a variety of items that you can find during a run, but none are as confusing as the Ancient Scroll. At first glance, when you find this particular item, especially if you are a new player, you might think that it has other purposes than what it seems. But what exactly can you use it for?

There are two uses for Ancient Scrolls in Dark and Darker, but despite the name, they are not useful for anything combat related. The first use is during quests that you get from the various merchants. Some may ask you for an Ancient Scroll that you can turn in for rewards.
Outside of those one or two cases, the only thing you can do with an Ancient Scroll is sell it to the Collector for money. The higher the tier of the Ancient Scroll, the more money you will get, and due to its size, you can expect to get a fair amount of gold if you successfully bring back a rarer one from your recent run.
You can get over 50 gold for each item you sell, so it's worth taking as much as you can from the dungeons if you want to save money for slot upgrades or just buy rarer items on the market.
