The mode dial is one of the most important parts of the camera, giving you access to the shooting modes. It is useful to know what each icon means to get the best results when taking photos.
Most high-end interchangeable-lens cameras have a mode dial, as do some point-and-shoot cameras. Typically, the mode dial is located on the top panel of the camera, although sometimes it is aligned on the rear panel. (Note that not every camera has a mode dial, and not every mode dial contains all of the options discussed here.)
