The free version of Xbox Network, formerly known as Xbox Live Silver, included features once available only to gamers with paid Xbox Game Pass (formerly Xbox Live Gold) subscriptions. Microsoft dropped the Xbox Silver designation and now offers free Xbox Network and paid Xbox Game Pass memberships.

Once you've signed in to your Xbox console and connected to Xbox Network, you'll need to create a profile and a Gamertag. You can then take advantage of the many features that come with your free Xbox Network membership:

While Xbox Network offers the aforementioned benefits for everyone, online play requires an Xbox Game Pass Core or Ultimate membership for most games. Other Game Pass benefits include exclusive demos and members-only sales, along with up to 75 percent off select games, add-ons, and other items.

Game Pass also offers access to a catalog of titles that are free to download and play at no additional cost. The Core tier features a smaller lineup of a few dozen first- and third-party games, while Ultimate offers hundreds of options, including Electronic Arts games via EA Play.
