Apple has introduced a number of improvements and features that enhance the FaceTime experience, both in terms of video and audio. Wide Spectrum is the new microphone mode for your iPhone. When selected, Wide Spectrum lets in ambient sounds so your caller can not only isolate your voice, but also get a sense of where you are.

Apple uses advanced machine learning to determine how much of the world around you to let in before it starts to drown out your own voice, so expect great results with this mic mode. If the background noise gets too loud and distracting and you want to put the focus back on your voice, you can always switch to the other mode, Voice Isolation.

The Wide Spectrum microphone mode is ideal for those who don’t want the focus to be solely on their voice and would rather have a bed of sounds behind it.
