The latest trailers for the Silent Hill 2 remake have finally pulled back the curtain, giving us much more insight into Bloober Team's grand vision for the game. However, they also raise even more questions and criticisms for this attempt to rebuild perhaps the most iconic horror game in history. Expectations have rarely been higher for a remake, and while there are certain elements of the original game that Bloober Team can respectfully curate, there are others that realistically remain out of reach.

Bloober Team CEO BEGS gamers to give Silent Hill 2 Remake a chance

One of the most memorable elements of the original Silent Hill 2 was its characteristically strange voice acting and the motion capture that was recorded alongside it. As revealed in the NeoGamer documentary (seen above), rather than hiring professional voice actors to perform a rehearsed production, Team Silent ambitiously chose a random collection of regular people from all walks of life who sounded much more “normal” and, well, human.

The end result was a fantastic combination of 'lightning in a bottle' acts that were all awkwardly and imperfectly perfect, making otherwise ordinary characters like Angela, Eddie and Maria look fascinating, but also seem uncomfortable for James to deal with.

In the modern era of gaming, this more improvised method of bringing characters to life without professional voice actors would likely never happen again. It’s a definite risk that Team Silent happened to be very lucky to take over twenty years ago.
