According to experts, Apple's upcoming virtual reality (VR) headset will have to offer extraordinary new capabilities to justify its potential $3,000 price tag.

The Apple Vision Pro is terrifying

According to a recent Bloomberg report, the new VR headset could arrive as early as next year and feature powerful processors and advanced display technology. It will go up against a range of current VR headsets like the Oculus Quest 2 that have garnered praise from reviewers and cost a tenth of the price. But Apple’s technological advantage could be a game-changer for users.

“The 8K display and cameras, especially the pass-through cameras, justify such a high price point,” Varag Gharibjanian, chief revenue officer of virtual reality software company Clay AIR, said in an email interview. “The display resolution and frame rate really make a difference in VR, making the experience more immersive and realistic, and reducing the risk of nausea.”

Details about the rumored Apple device are vague, but tantalizing. According to Bloomberg, the headset will have faster chips than Apple's latest M1 Mac processors. Very high-resolution displays will also sweeten the deal.
