You may consider changing your default messaging app if you're not using an app with end-to-end encryption.
How does end-to-end encryption work and which apps encrypt your messages?
Consumer privacy just got a lot better, and Android phone users will soon have access to another important privacy feature thanks to Google’s Android Messages app. The company announced in mid-June that it plans to bring end-to-end encryption to its Messages app, something experts say every smartphone user should take advantage of.
“Among other things, end-to-end encryption enables true data protection and privacy. People can be confident that no one can read their messages except the intended recipient,” Amir Ish-Shalom, vice president of platform at Viber, told Lifewire in an email. “Anyone concerned about their privacy should make sure they use messaging services that offer end-to-end encryption.”
With so much focus on user privacy in the tech industry, you could be putting your data at risk if you’re still using a messaging app that doesn’t support end-to-end encryption.
