Riley Testut's Delta Nintendo console emulator is coming to the iPad and we can't wait.

Guide to the iPad Pro 2024 as a retro game console!

Delta, which lets you run your own copies of Nintendo (and Sega Genesis) console games on your iPhone, will soon be available on the iPad. This comes after years of Apple's blanket ban on game emulators. Who knows why Apple banned emulators in the first place, but the result of the about-face is that the iPad is now arguably the best handheld gaming console around.

"The advantage of the iPad is its generous screen size, which makes for a more immersive gaming experience. This becomes more important for retro titles that were originally designed for larger screens," Lucas Wyland, founder of gaming site Steambase, told Lifewire via email.

The whole Delta saga has been a rollercoaster ride. When Delta developer Testut tried to launch an official version of his Alt Store in the EU, made possible by Europe’s new DMA laws that have forced Apple to open up iOS to third-party stores, Apple was reluctant to approve it.
