For years, Android phones with OLED screens have come with Always On Display, a feature that allows users to glance at their phone’s screen to check the time or notifications. While iPhones have had OLED screens since the launch of the iPhone X, Apple has yet to roll out such a feature for its iPhones or any of its devices.

Enable Always on Display on any iPhone 11, 12, 13 – on iOS 16.1.1

With the introduction of the new iPhone 14 Pro series, Apple has finally added an Always On Display, allowing users to glance at their phone without having to tap on it. Yes, even the recently launched iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus don’t get the Always On Display feature.

When the feature is enabled, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will continue to display a dimmed version of your lock screen with the date, time, weather, and information from other widgets you may have added to your lock screen.

The Always-On display is activated when you lock your iPhone with the side button. When your phone is placed face down on a table or in your pocket, your iPhone will not show the Always-On display, but will instead turn off the screen to save battery life. Unlike the traditional Always-On display on Android phones, information on your lock screen is displayed on top of your current wallpaper instead of a black screen. However, the wallpaper is darker than normal and the colors are faded to save battery life.
