Walt Disney Animation Studios has revealed the first images from “Zootopia 2,” the highly anticipated sequel to the 2016 billion-dollar box office darling. Ginnifer Goodwin greeted fans at D23, shouting from the stage that “the bunny is back!”
Ke Huy Quan Joins the Cast of 'Zootopia 2'
The original "Zootopia" police bunny got sentimental: "'Zootopia' is my happy place," she said, "and I'm ready for the world to see this crazy new adventure." After promising to revisit your favorite animals from the first film (including Mr. Big, Clawhauser, Flash the Sloth), Disney also teased a bunch of new animals. First up is Disney alum ("Loki," "Indiana Jones) Ke Huy Quan, who plays a reptile named Gary, the snake that was described as a "creepy, slithery, highly venomous viper." Welcome, Gary! Apparently, Gary is a big part of Nick and Judy's hot new case (yes, the duo are still animal police). Plus, these are the first reptiles we'll see in the Zootopia world.
The exclusive D23 clip showed Nick and Judy searching for Gary in Marsh Market, where the semi-aquatic animals live. The Marsh played host to many animal shenanigans, including hippos getting tattoos, hippos riding water slides, seals eating algae, and a plumber sea lion.
Jared Bush wrote and directed the sequel, with Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin reprising their roles as Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps. According to an official logline, “Zootopia 2” will see “brave rabbit agent Judy Hopps and her fox boyfriend Nick Wilde team up once again to solve the most dangerous and complicated case of their careers.”
